Laptops are a "hot commodity" during exam time.  In fact, we often check out of them at the Main Circulation Desk.  Never fear... did you know we have Dell Laptops for check out at the Lower Level Service Desk?  So "check them out"....

Good Luck on Exams!

Through a successful collaboration with Student Accounts, the Registrar's Office, ITS and the University Library, all library charges will now sync with the ASU Banner system.  This change will make the library billing process faster, simpler and more transparent.  All library charges will appear at the library and on faculty, staff and student banner accounts beginning Monday, May 7th.  This will enable faculty, staff and students to pay library charges at either the University Library or at Student Accounts.

You can pay at the library at the Main Circulation Desk using App, Credit or Debit cards, cash or check.  At Student Accounts, you can pay face to face or online.  NOTE: Be sure to indicate to Student Accounts personnel if you are paying face to face that your payment is for a library fine.  Due to the timing of payments synced, please allow a minimum of 24 hours for proper credit to appear.

Please note that at any time, you may check your library account by going to MY ACCOUNT at the top of the University Library’s home page (www.library.appstate.edu).  Log in using your last name and banner ID number.  You can check here any time, 24 hours/day for any fines, fees, hold’s, late books from any web enabled device.

The Library has a number of group study rooms to make collaboration before the big test or presentation a breeze.  However, at the end of the semester, and especially during exam week, the 26 group study rooms we have fill up quickly.

Here are some tips to avoid the stress of the end of the semester crunch:

  1. Book a group study room ahead of time.  During this busy, busy time, there will be no room for "walk ins" so a reservation is a must.  Here's the link:  http://tinyurl.com/d86l8ew
  2. Be patient with folks leaving a little late or arriving a little early for their booking... everyone is stressed so be kind in the transition.
  3. If you have any difficulty with groups vacating the rooms at their appointed time, please come to the Main Circulation Desk for assistance and ask to speak to a manager.  We will assist you with the transition.

Good luck on your Exams!  Stay tuned for more tips....

The Student Research Lab for Individual Quiet Study is open tonight through final exams in Classroom 026 on the Lower Level of Belk Library.  Computers will be open for student use in this classroom.  Unlike most of the library, there is no food or drink allowed in the classrooms and we ask that it be a quiet (no talking) zone.  This lab will open Sundays – Thursdays from 5 pm until midnight regularly and can be opened if demand warrants it.

ASU Pinterest

Belk Library is launching our new Pinterest site -- just in time to celebrate the upcoming National Library Week (April 8 – 14).  Pinterest is one of the fastest growing social networking sites around today.  It combines the connectivity of Facebook with the capability of “bookmarking” all wrapped in beautiful visual imagery.  “Pinning” on Pinterest is like having a room full of bulletin boards--all on different subjects--where the user can “pin” pictures, links to websites, recipes, posters, etc. to the appropriate board to view and refer. Check us our and follow our pin boards at http://pinterest.com/asubelklibrary/

ASU's Pinterest pageIn celebration of National Library Week (April 8-14), Belk Library will be gathering input from students, faculty, and staff about what their favorite books are. We'll be gathering entries via a form on the library's website, and then posting them on one of the library's Pinterest boards. The book that is entered the most times will be added to all the library's Kindles, so that even more people can experience it!

Share your favorite!

The form is open now, and we'll be accepting entries until April 14. Tell us what book has inspired you, given you joy, or taught you an important lesson.

We'll be announcing other events in celebration of National Library Week soon!

Check out the new high-tech drink/water and snack machines located in the Library’s Atrium near Classroom 114 and the bus stop!  These new machines offer greater selections of snacks (including some healthy alternatives), power drinks, chilled coffee drinks, juice, green tea and lifewaters.  We hope to add more healthy snacks to the machines.  Feel free to let us know what you would like to see in the snack machines.  Check it out and happy snacking!

The Library Student Advisory Group met on February 23rd and offered some excellent suggestions for developing the kiosks.

  • Interactive Campus Maps – with maybe the capability to give directions to other buildings.
  • Put Belk Library floor maps on the kiosk with things like bathrooms, snack machines etc. listed on them
  • With the maps, have a listing of what items are on each floor
  • List of the Library of congress subject areas (classification guides) like the posters around the building so patrons would know where to browse an area.
  • Searchable directories
  • Applecart schedules
  • Having a background on the Kiosks on the library’s closing time for the day.
  • Put a clock face on the kiosk so patrons would know the time.
  • Link to the comments/suggestions link

The kiosks are definitely a work in progress, so please let us know what you would like to see!
